Company may be afforded an opportunity of

submitting proposals.

In reply we beg to inform you that the

Company is prepared to take over the operation of

the existing wireless services at the earliest

date convenient to the Hong Kong Government. As

you are aware, the Company's engineer, Mr. Madgwick,

is already in Hong Kong, his services having been

lent to the Government pending the taking over of the services by the Company.

In order to modernise the present

service the Company will undertake to meet the

essential minimum requirements of the Colony for

existing telegraph purposes which are stated by

the Government to be:-

(a) Additional transmitting equipment

estimated by the Government to cost £12,000

(b) Additional receiving equipment

estimated by the Government to cost £4,000

we should like to receive a general

description of the apparatus covered by this

estimato in order that the requisite orders may be

placed.

4.

We shall be prepared to undertake the

establishment of a wireless telephone service with

Shanghai, on the assumption that it will be possible to make suitable arrangements with a connecting

station at Shanghai.
